Law School & Dreams That Burn Clean

cropped-tabias-portrait.jpg

Law school has a way of changing people,

chaining people,

to conditions precedent,

precedences of professionalism

that uphold a legal and political

infrastructure that depress the

ability of those criminalized

and penalized

to rise above the

prejudicial gravity of the

law.

With that in mind, it has become abundantly clear that I must let my dreams

burn.

Infernos to wheat, they cut through the chafe and leave the structures of fuckery bare.

These are what my dreams do.

Dreams of freedom.

Dreams of liberation.

Dreams of love.

Free people of color.

Liberated Queers.

Loving Diasporas.

Freedom.

Liberation.

Love.

People of Color.

Queers.

Diasporas.

I pull Assata, Baldwin, Essex Hemphill, Derek Bell and recent ancestors close to my soul,

praying that my sole purpose will be gain, enjoy and unleash freedom.

To claim the humanity and maintain the humanity of our complexities but

never to prove it. There is nothing to prove.

No authority to prove it to.

No interest convergence.

No bowing to white supremacist

capitalist

heteropatriarcal

society

power

norms

lens

gazes.

Dreams

That

Burn

Clean.

Infernos of Radical Love.

That burning Bush that speaks within.
